The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization focused on hospital safety, has awarded A grades to all AdventHealth and Orlando Health legacy hospitals in Central Florida. These biannual ratings assess hospitals based on their ability to prevent medical errors, infections, and injuries.
Eight AdventHealth hospitals in the region earned A grades, along with six Orlando Health legacy hospitals. Brian Adams, president and CEO of AdventHealth’s Central Florida Division, expressed pride in the achievement, noting, “This recognition reflects our team’s dedication to delivering safe, whole-person care.”
AdventHealth’s Commitment to Patient Safety
Consistently high ratings emphasize AdventHealth’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care. Orlando Health South Lake achieved its 13th consecutive A grade, while Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center and Dr. P. Phillips Hospital each received their seventh straight A grades.
The Leapfrog Group’s grades aim to promote safety and transparency by evaluating over 3,000 acute-care hospitals nationwide. The organization uses more than 30 performance measures, including data reported to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, to determine scores.
Progress and Challenges in Hospital Ratings
While AdventHealth and Orlando Health facilities excelled, other hospitals in Central Florida showed mixed results. For example, Oviedo Medical Center received an A grade, but several HCA Florida facilities earned B’s or C’s.
Orlando Health’s recent acquisitions, including St. Cloud and Bayfront hospitals, are showing progress. Both hospitals improved to B grades after previously receiving lower scores. These improvements highlight the impact of focused efforts on safety and quality.
Florida hospitals overall ranked 13th in the nation for safety, with 71 out of 193 evaluated facilities earning A grades. As hospitals like AdventHealth and Orlando Health lead the way, their continued commitment to patient safety serves as a model for others across the state.
With these top ratings, Central Florida hospitals demonstrate their dedication to reducing harm and delivering the highest quality care to their communities.
