Orlando Health has introduced the Hercules Patient Repositioning System, becoming the first health care provider in Florida to adopt this innovative technology. Designed to improve patient comfort and streamline caregiver workflows, the system was demonstrated at Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital.

Revolutionizing Patient Care at Orlando Health

The Hercules Patient Repositioning System efficiently moves patients weighing up to 750 pounds in seconds, offering increased safety and comfort. By alleviating pressure on injury-prone areas and ensuring proper alignment, the device supports healthy blood flow while minimizing risks like ulcers. It also eliminates the need for multiple caregivers to physically reposition patients, reducing strain and saving time.

“This technology enhances care and improves working conditions for our clinical teams,” said Philip Koovakada, president of Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. “We are proud to lead the way with this innovation that prioritizes both patients and staff.”

Orlando Health’s Commitment to Innovation

Assistant Vice President of Workforce Optimization, Darius Love, emphasized Orlando Health’s focus on enhancing both patient experiences and employee well-being. “The Hercules system underscores our mission to provide the highest quality care while supporting our caregivers,” he said.

The device includes a motorized drive, a specialized sheet, and a sleep surface that work together to reposition patients seamlessly. The system is intuitive, requiring just the push of two buttons to realign patients quickly and comfortably.

Expanding Across Orlando Health Facilities

Orlando Health has initiated a phased rollout of the Hercules system, beginning with pilot programs at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center and South Lake Hospital. By December, it will be available in all Orlando Health Central Florida locations and Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Registered nurse Bianca Timothy praised the system for its efficiency, stating, “It reduces the physical demands on staff while ensuring our patients receive top-tier care.”

Orlando Health’s investment in the Hercules system reflects its commitment to innovation, ensuring the highest standards of care for patients and empowering caregivers to perform their roles effectively.
