The role you’ll contribute:

The surgical services coordinator fulfills all aspects of OurLegacy’s deceased donor organ recovery, preservation and transportation program for all medically suitable organ donation cases arising in each of the following AdventHealth Central Florida hospitals: Altamonte Springs, Apopka, Celebration, Daytona Beach, Deland, East Orlando, Fish Memorial, Palm Coast, Kissimmee, Orlando, Waterman and Winter Park. Additionally, OurLegacy provides organ recovery services to non-AdventHealth hospitals in the following counties; Brevard, Flagler Indian River, Lake, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia.

 

For deaths occurring at each of these hospitals, the surgical services coordinator is responsible to understand and comply with OurLegacy organ recovery policies and protocols for organ, lymph node, spleen, blood specimen labeling, packaging and transportation. The surgical services coordinator must have mastery of the principles and practices of organ preservation for the purpose of transplantation. To ensure usability of all donated organs, the surgical services coordinator must possess exceptional skill as first assistant during the surgical removal of deceased donor hearts, lungs, livers, kidneys, pancreata, lymph nodes and spleen. The surgical services coordinator independently, and without direct supervision, connects deceased donor kidneys to pulsatile preservation biomedical equipment for the purpose of transplant suitability evaluation.

 

The value you’ll bring to the team:

 

  • *Oversees the recovery preocdure, including OR donor management and personnel workflow, to ensure optimal organ viability and respect for the donor and their gifts.
  • Assist with surgical recovery of organs as required. Assist with the preparation and admistration of preservation solution and packaging of organs.
  • Ability to be on call and reachable for an extended period of time. (24 hours per call day)
  • Manages and monitors organs for transplant on mechanical preservation devices.
  • Provides overall coordination for the multidisciplinary team involved in recovering Heart, Lungs, Liver outside our DSA.
  • Handles intake calls for potential organ fly outs.
  • Activly participates in and facilitates communication, education, and collaboration among operating room staff, recovering teams, hospital members, ensuring continuity of donor care.

Qualifications


The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed
:

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong demonstrated operating room knowledge and skill.
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate sterile and aseptic techniques in the operating room.
  • Ability to multitask with attention to detail.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Completion of a Surgical Tech program

 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

 

  • CST within one year of employment and FL Driver's License
  • CPR certification
