Orlando Health Hospital Care at Home has achieved a significant milestone by admitting its 200th patient since its establishment in February 2023. This innovative initiative offers hospital-level care to adult patients within the comfort of their own homes.
Dr. Siddharaj G. Shah, the Medical and Quality Director of Orlando Health Hospital Care at Home, emphasized the profound impact of this accomplishment, highlighting that it represents 200 instances where patients have had the privilege of receiving the highest quality medical care while being in the company of their loved ones and within familiar surroundings.
Orlando Health Hospital Care At Home, initially launched at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center and Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital, is a groundbreaking program that has rapidly expanded its services to encompass Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, Orlando Health Emergency Room – Osceola, Orlando Health Emergency Room – Randal Park, and Orlando Health Emergency Room – Lake Mary.
Orlando Health Hospital Care A Home Is First In Central Florida
Notably, Orlando Health's program was the first in Central Florida to receive approval for Medicare and Medicaid patients, and it currently extends its services to patients with participating private insurances.
To qualify for this program, patients must reside in a secure home environment within a predefined geographical catchment area to ensure quick access to emergency care if required.
Orlando Health Hospital Care at Home delivers medical care in patients' homes for a range of conditions, including cellulitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, urinary tract infections, heart failure, COVID-19, pneumonia, gastroenteritis, acute pancreatitis, multiple sclerosis flare-ups, sepsis, and vasculitis.
Patients benefit from portable technology that connects them to the Orlando Health Patient Care Hub, facilitating 24/7 remote monitoring and virtual care provided by nurses and healthcare professionals.
Much Needed In-Person Care
The program combines daily in-person care from nursing team members with virtual visits from healthcare providers and consultants. Additionally, it offers mobile imaging, laboratory services, dietary support, and therapy as prescribed.
Linda Fitzpatrick, Assistant Vice President of Orlando Health Hospital Care at Home, expressed immense pride in the team's achievements, emphasizing that the milestone of admitting 200 patients was reached in less than six months of operation. She stated, "I could not be prouder of this team and everything they have accomplished. With the support of many throughout Orlando Health, Hospital Care at Home will continue to grow and remain a vital part of the healthcare services we provide to the communities we serve."
