Expansion adds nine beds to inpatient rehabilitation unit to meet growing needs of the community

SANFORD – In response to the growing healthcare needs of Central Florida, HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital, an affiliate of HCA Florida Healthcare, has recently completed a $ 7 million expansion of its inpatient rehabilitation unit. The expansion project includes the addition of nine private rooms, expanded room size, top of the line equipment, a state-of-the-art gym, and a new patient dining and recreation space.

The unit, which is accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), opened in 2013 and was the first inpatient rehabilitation unit in Seminole County. Year after year, the hospital has seen consistent growth in the number of patients seeking inpatient rehabilitation services.

Patients most frequently need inpatient rehabilitation services if they have suffered one of the following:

•           Cardiac and Pulmonary Events

•           Brain, Back and Spinal Cord Injuries

•           Orthopedic Fractures

•           Amputations

•           Neuromuscular Disorders

The average length of stay for patients at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital’s inpatient rehabilitation unit is less than the national average, while patients reach a greater level of independence than other acute inpatient rehabilitation centers in the nation. In addition, 85% of patients are discharged home, compared to 78% nationally. These outcomes are partially due to the hospital-based unit. In-house rehabilitation allows for seamless continuity of care and better medical management. The inpatient rehabilitation unit at HCA Florida Lake Monroe Hospital was recently recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of the top physical inpatient rehabilitation centers in the United States.
