Orlando Health has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art neurosciences institute that will serve patients throughout the southeastern United States. The three-story, 45,000-square-foot medical office building will be the new home of Orlando Health neuroscience service lines including neurosurgery, neurology, neurodiagnostics, interventional pain, and the Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute Spine Care Center.
“Construction of the Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute is just one of many ways that we are expanding to meet the growing healthcare needs of Florida and the southeast region of the United States,” said David Strong, president and CEO of Orlando Health. “We’re looking forward to the positive impact this new facility will have on our current and future patients.”
The Institute will be located at 86 W. Underwood Street, along “Institute Row,” on Orlando Health’s downtown campus. “Institute Row” is home to multiple, high-quality, medical institutes located on the north and south sides of Underwood Street, including the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute, the Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute, the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute – phase one of which is scheduled to open spring 2023 – and the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. Construction of the Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute is slated to begin following demolition and clearing of the site this coming fall.
The new facility was designed in conjunction with Orlando Health’s Energy and Sustainability Task Force to reduce energy consumption by 15 percent and optimize building performance. The project is yet another Orlando Health building designed with environmental responsibility in mind.
This is an exciting announcement for patients in need of the best, quality neuroscience care,” said Robert Hirschl, MD, Orlando Health neurosurgery chairman and Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute president. “The Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute will allow us to expand our capacity to see more patients while also having our highly skilled neurologists and neurosurgeons in one central and convenient location on our downtown Orlando Health campus.”
The Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute is anticipated to open in late 2023.
