Seminole State Raiders Athletics Names Orlando Health Official Medical Provider

Orlando Health is now the official medical team for Seminole State College of Florida Raider Athletics.

The announcement is part of a new partnership where physicians at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute will coordinate care for Seminole State student-athletes through the Orlando Health network of complete medical services. Student-athletes at Seminole State will have access to comprehensive, world-class medical care, including emergency care, primary care, pulmonology, spine specialists, neurologists, cardiologists, physical therapists, athletic trainers and more.

“We’re honored that Seminole State College chose Orlando Health to take care of its student-athletes,” says Shawn Molsberger, senior vice president of Orlando Health’s Northeast Region. “Lead by the specialists at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute, and with the growing network of care we provide out of South Seminole Hospital and the future Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital, Seminole State’s student-athletes can rest assured that the high-level care they need to excel on the field is never too far away.”

The agreement with Seminole State also includes the naming rights to the college’s athletic training room at the Raider Center on the Sanford/Lake Mary campus.

“This partnership is transformational for our athletics department,” stated Kurt Esser, director of athletics for Seminole State. “Not only do our student-athletes get top notch care, but the agreement also provides support that will elevate athletics and wellness efforts across all of our campuses.”

The Raider Athletics Department of Seminole State College was established in 1965 and initially led by Athletic Director and Head Basketball Coach Joe Sterling. Seminole State sponsors five sports all competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I.  The Raiders have won five NJCAA National Championships including three in Women’s Golf (2015, 2019 & 2021). Seminole State will host the 2022 Women’s Golf National Championships at Timacuan Golf and Country Club in Lake Mary, May 9-12.

Under the agreement, Orlando Health will be the exclusive provider of medical care to Seminole State student-athletes and provide athletic trainers who will perform training services, including on-site medical services as required on game days.
