Lake Nona's own Dr. William Felix is headed to Rio! As a medical consultant for the National Basketball Association, he will lead the medical logistics team for USA Basketball in preparation for and during the 2016 Olympic Games. As part of his duties, Dr. Felix will travel to Rio prior to the Games to explore and vet a variety of medical facilities and EMS services to provide services to USA Basketball players in case of injury during their time in Brazil. "We want to have the best possible care standing by for these world-class athletes who will represent our country in the Olympics," Dr. Felix says. "We look at the quality of the facilities, the technology available and make sure that confidentiality can be guaranteed." During the Games, Dr. Felix will coordinate USA Basketball's medical contingent in the basketball arena, and serve as a first-responder in a medical crisis for NBA staff.

Dr. Felix, whose office is located at Florida Hospital Health Park-Lake Nona, is a board-certified physician focusing on the treatment of sports injuries as well as acute and chronic injury care for patients of all ages. He is one of only 125 physicians in the United States board certified in both sports and emergency medicine. In his Lake Nona practice, Dr. Felix performs diagnostic and procedural musculoskeletal ultrasounds to find non-surgical solutions for orthopaedic disorders, including Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP), regenerative medicine and ortho-biologics.

Treating athletes and non-athletes, including children with special needs, Dr. Felix is uniquely qualified to provide emergency orthopedic service, in the emergency room and on the sidelines. Dr. Felix completed a Fellowship at Duke University School of Medicine’s prestigious sports medicine program and went on to serve as a team physician at Rollins College at Winter Park, FL.

Since 2010, he has served as the Medical Director Global Games Clinical Consultant for the NBA during local and national events, including the 2012 Olympic Games in London. He is also a medical consultant for CNN and is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
