In May, Grace Medical Home celebrated 5 years of providing the highest level of healthcare to the uninsured of Central Florida.
Grace Medical Home has also played a significant role in the reduction of Emergency Room visits since it opened. Of the Grace patients surveyed in 2014, 67 percent said they would have gone to the ER for treatment if Grace did not exist.
Some of the other additions and changes have come in the last year alone. In 2014 Grace expanded to a second building to provide mental health care to patients and celebrated its second year of partnership with the University of Central Florida, helping to train 114 future physicians with the Knights Clinic.
The number of uninsured in Florida and Central Florida continues to be much higher than the national reports. In Florida, nearly one in four people lack health insurance, according to a recent report by the U.S. Census Bureau, the second largest rate of uninsured in the country, just behind Texas. Orange County’s uninsured exceeds state or national trends, with roughly 250,000 – or 24.5 percent - without health insurance coverage.
