Leesburg Regional Medical Center (LRMC) is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed the training for the Safety Program for Perinatal Care sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).

The program is designed to help hospitals and clinicians reduce complications during and after childbirth, making care safer for both mothers and babies.

"Leesburg Regional Medical Center is proud to provide excellent care to the mothers and babies in our community," said Sandra Mullin, Director of Maternal Child Health at LRMC. "We adopted the Safety Program for Perinatal Care in order to continue to achieve higher standards and to reduce the occurrence of adverse events."

Through the program, the Labor and Delivery team at LRMC received support to implement improvements in fostering a culture of teamwork and communication; safe medication administration; and administering safe care in focused areas, including obstetric hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, cord prolapse, and cesarean section deliveries.

The AHRQ recognized the Labor and Delivery team at LRMC for their efforts in the "Code Crimson" program, a new standardized process for managing patients who have an obstetrical hemorrhage.

"It is an honor to be recognized for something we worked so hard on," continues Mullin. "The Code Crimson project enabled our team to be better prepared to assess for hemorrhage risks as well as to prepare for and manage obstetrical hemorrhage in its earlier stages."
