Currently one in nine people age 65 and older have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. This number is expected to double by 2050. With Florida's growing senior citizen population, the economic toll of the disease may be staggering as more family caregivers face growing out-of-pocket expenses.

Cornerstone Hospice and Palliative Care's Clinical Liaison Educator Paula Loats, RN, BS, MBA, CCDS will present "Caring for the Caregiver" at the upcoming 2018 Florida State Guardianship Association Conference in Orlando, on Thursday, July 19, at 9:30 a.m.

Loats will explain the impact caregiving can have on individuals and families and offer tips on caregiver practices to improve outcomes and caregiving sustainability. Additionally, Loats will discuss the need for change in policies and practices regarding national caregivers strategy and development of national database of caregiver resources.

Loats will also present "The H word - Dispelling Hospice Myths and Understanding Differentiators" at 12 p.m., on the 19th, and will explain the important factors to consider when choosing a hospice provider.

Loats began her nursing career more than 32 years ago and has practiced in many specialties. As Cornerstone Hospice's clinical liaison educator, Loats educates Central Florida medical organizations about the need for appropriate patient care at the end of life.
