Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center focused the spotlight on the Radiology Department during the recent Business After Hours at the hospital.
Highlighted during the event were the new 3D mammography machines at Heart of Florida and a new procedure that helps pinpoint a breast tumor using a wireless radar device.
"We are very excited about the 3D mammography machines and the new wireless radar procedure,'' said Sims Kendall, director of Diagnostic Imaging at Heart of Florida. "We are very excited to be able to provide this level of care to our patients.''
The 3D, or three dimension, mammogram can help detect breast cancer in its earliest stages, when it can be easier to treat and has a higher success rate of treatment.
The technology allows for technicians to see the breast tissue in 1 millimeter sections. The images of the breast can be viewed in paper-thin sections, which makes detection of an issue easier to see. It is recommended for women who have dense breast tissue or a history of fibroids in their breasts.
The American College of Radiology recommends women age 40 or older get a mammogram once a year. Women who are at a risk of breast cancer should ask their doctors to determine the best screening schedule.
Women who do have breast cancer and are interested in learning more about the wireless radar procedure can call and make an appointment with Paul Williams, MD at the number below.
Mammograms do require a physician's prescription. To see a breast care physician, please call Vincent Carifi, MD, or Paul Williams, MD at 863-421-7276 or go to HeartOfFloridaPhysicianGroup.com.
