Novlet Mattis received the Healthcare ORBIE for hospitals and healthcare organizations.

Orlando Health Chief Information Officer (CIO) Novlet Mattis recently earned the distinguished 2021 CIO of the Year® ORBIE® Award in the hospital and healthcare organizations category from the Miami CIO Leadership Association (MiamiCIO). The ORBIE Awards is the premier technology executive recognition program in the United States and honors CIOs who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership.

MiamiCIO announced the winners of this year’s awards on May 21 during a virtual presentation. The organization recognized CIOs in six key categories – Leadership, Global, Large, Enterprise, Corporate and Healthcare.

Ms. Mattis is being recognized for her role at Orlando Health where she has transformed the information technology operations by utilizing a people, process and technology approach. She became CIO of the health care organization that serves the southeastern part of the U.S. in 2018. One of her most recent and notable accomplishments is the deployment of a comprehensive health record (CHR) by Epic. The implementation allows nurses and physicians to collaborate across the health care system to see the entire patient story, including patients’ physician visits, medications and hospitalizations. The MyChart feature, which provides access to all of the patients’ health information, gives them or a loved one the best tool to manage the patients’ care.

“It’s a great honor to receive this recognition especially now when we have had to keep up with technology needs during these unprecedented times,” Ms. Mattis said. “This award demonstrates Orlando Health’s ongoing investment in technology to deliver on our goal to provide the highest quality of care for our patients. I have an amazing team that has helped transform the technology ecosystem into one that is data-driven, innovative and prepared for healthcare digitization in meeting the changing consumer and patient needs.”

Since inception in 1998, over 1,500 CIOs have been honored as finalists and over 350 CIO of the Year winners have received the prestigious ORBIE Award. Finalists and winners are selected by an independent peer review process, led by prior ORBIE recipients.
