Surgeons Get First Look at Technological Features of Future Hospital

Orlando Health orthopedic surgeons got their first glimpse of the health system’s future orthopedic specialty hospital with an in-person tour of a mock-up of a surgery suiteSet up in a warehouse located on Orlando Health’s main campus in downtown Orlando, the model was built to scale and staged with functional medical equipment the surgical teams use daily for medical procedures. This first look gave each member of the surgery team the opportunity to examine the set-up of the suites and provide feedback prior to the construction plans of the specialty hospital being finalized

“A key benefit of this replica is that it gives each member of the team the opportunity to get a realistic sense of the surgery suite and how the layout impacts their role,” said Mike Jablonski, MD, orthopedic physician lead with Orlando Health. “To have that collaborative effort really makes the best possible operating room that we can design and I think the fact that Orlando Health is willing to do that will benefit everybody in the end.”

Earlier this year, Jewett Orthopaedic Clinic joined with Orlando Health, combining a robust outpatient private orthopedic practice with an internationally known trauma program. The combined strength of this new partnership has been the catalyst for the creation of one of the premier destination orthopedic hospitals in the southeastern United States.

Development of this new inpatient facility dedicated solely to the care of orthopedic patients is nearing completion, with Orlando Health planning to break ground on the facility in the fall of 2020. It will be located on the southeast corner of Lucerne Terrace and Columbia Street on Orlando Health’s downtown campus.
