Tablet technology is keeping patients connected during restricted visitation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Orlando Health hospitals are adding a new way for patients to stay connected to family, friends, and loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic. With restricted visitation in place to ensure the health and safety of patients, visitors and care teams, the healthcare system has implemented virtual visitation with tablet devices for inpatients who don’t have their own personal communication technology.

For each virtual visitation, staff will provide the tablet and assist patients with the audio/visual connection. The device is sanitized after each use.

“We understand the value of family support and the role it plays in a patient’s recovery,” said Laura Clarke, manager, customer experience, Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC). “Using technology to help our patients keep strong bonds with loved ones is another way we are caring for patients during this difficult time. Whether the visit is for a hello and everyday conversation, or to be part of a family dinner or a friend’s birthday celebration, we want patients to feel as close to their loved ones as possible.”
