Hospital Cancer Registry Program Earns Prestigious Recognition

Central Florida Health has announced that the Cancer Registry at Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages® Regional Hospital has earned the Jean Byers Oncology Award for Excellence in Cancer Registration from the Florida Cancer Data System for 2018 data. This award recognizes healthcare systems and hospital that adhere to rigorous national standards for completeness, timeliness and quality for reporting cancer data to the statewide cancer registry. This is the 16th year Central Florida Health has earned this prestigious award.

"We are honored to be among the select few institutions in the region chosen to receive the Jean Byers Award," said Elizabeth Jernigan, Corporate Director of Quality and Infection Control at Central Florida Health. "It recognizes the ongoing commitment of our Cancer Registry team. They truly understand the value in cancer data reporting and work diligently every day to accurately track the health of our cancer patients and community."

The award is given in honor of Jean Anne Byers, who passed away in 1996 following a long career dedicated to promoting oncology research and education in Florida.

The cancer programs at Leesburg Regional Medical Center and The Villages® Regional Hospital are accredited by the Commission on Cancer, which indicates a commitment to meeting their high quality standards. Our partnerships with other facilities and organizations enable us to offer a full spectrum of cancer services and ensure a seamless program from diagnosis to treatment for our patients.
