Nemours Awarded Top Hospital Distinction by Leapfrog Group
Nemours Children’s Hospital was one of just nine children’s hospitals in the country to make the annual Top Hospital List from the Leapfrog Group. This elite distinction is awarded to hospitals nationwide for demonstrating excellence in hospital safety and quality through the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The awards, which are given annually, will be announced at Leapfrog’s Annual Meeting and Top Hospital Awards tonight, in Washington, D.C.
Leapfrog’s Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious distinctions any hospital can achieve in the United States. It recognizes institutions for their excellence in quality of care and patient safety, as well as their commitment to transparency.
The Top Hospital award is given to less than seven percent of all eligible hospitals. Nemours Children’s Hospital was one of 94 Top Hospitals recognized nationally. The list includes:
• 24 Top Rural Hospitals
• 61 Top Urban Hospitals
• Nine Top Children’s Hospitals
The selection is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use and management structures established to prevent errors. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including rates for high-risk procedures and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors.
The Top Hospital award is not given to a set number of hospitals, but rather, to all urban, rural and children's hospitals that meet the high standards defined in each year's Top Hospitals Methodology.
Orlando Health Multiple Sclerosis Center receives recognition from National MS Society
The Orlando Health Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center was recently named a Partner in MS Care by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The Partners in MS Care program recognizes and supports quality MS care. The Orlando Health Care Center is the only Partner in MS Care in Orlando.
Being named a Partner in MS Care is an honor and reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment of the team to provide excellent care and support to people living with MS, according to Stephen J. Rosenberg, MD, FAAN, neurologist and medical director, Care Center.
The Partners in MS Care program involves healthcare professionals in the areas of:
· Center for Comprehensive MS Care: Additionally shown the ability to offer a multi-disciplinary model of care to address the often complex needs of many people with MS. They offer access to a full array of medical, psycho-social and rehabilitation services delivered in a coordinated fashion where providers share common goals for patient outcomes.
· Neurologic Care: Neurologists with current knowledge and experience treating MS.
· Rehabilitation: Physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech/language pathologists with demonstrated knowledge in evaluating and treating people with MS.
· Mental Health: Psychologists, social workers, counselors, and marriage and family counselors.
Other key components to the Care Center are education and support.
Multiple sclerosis, which affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide, is a chronic, unpredictable disease that attacks healthy tissue in the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves.

Florida State University College of Medicine Appoints Clerkship Director for Pediatrics
Community Health Centers, Inc.’s Debra Andree, MD, has been recently appointed to the role of Clerkship Director for Pediatrics at Florida State University College of Medicine’s (COM) Orlando Campus. Dr. Andree will direct the educational program for pediatrics for the FSU COM Orlando Campus and work with more than 100 Orlando community faculty members appointed to teach pediatric clerkships for third and fourth year FSU COM students.
Dr. Andree is the Associate Medical Director and Chief of Pediatrics at Community Health Centers, Inc. She joined the Orlando Campus community teaching faculty in 2004 as Clinical Assistant Professor, Pediatrics. In 2011, she became one of the inaugural participants of the FSU COM Clinical Re-search Network. Dr. Andree is a past recipient of the FSU College of Medicine Faculty Council Award for advancing the mission of FSU COM.
