More than 450 philanthropic-minded business professionals and passionate community members will come together on Wednesday, April 24th at the Rosen Shingle Creek for the Call to Hope Breakfast, an annual fundraiser hosted by Shepherd's Hope, a faith-based nonprofit celebrating 22 years of providing free medical services to the uninsured and underinsured through five local health centers operated by volunteer medical and lay personnel.
During the inspirational breakfast, attendees will hear directly from patients that represent the 1-in-4 Central Floridians who remain uninsured, contributing to the estimated 567,000 Central Floridians who linger in a gray area known as the "coverage gap" -- those earning too much to qualify for some programs, but not enough to afford insurance products offered on the Healthcare.gov exchange, even with federal subsidies, because of costly out-of-reach deductibles and co-payments. Such residents struggle to afford basic housing/food needs and, therefore because of financial obligations, often forgo or delay medical care.
The need for healthcare services to the uninsured that Shepherd's Hope provides is even greater today than it was when the organization served its first patient in 1997. With more than estimated 425,000 men, women and children in Central Florida who are without insurance, Shepherd's Hope remains committed to bridging the "coverage gap" to high quality healthcare while mitigating the tremendous financial implications to the community and other healthcare providers.
The Call to Hope Breakfast includes recognition of the more than 2,800 volunteers who give more than $17 million of in-kind volunteer services through the recognition of four Volunteer of the Year Awards: general, nurse, APRN, and physicians.
The Call to Hope Breakfast is supported by ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, AdventHealth, Enterprise Holdings Foundation, Orlando Health and Rosen Shingle Creek.
