Managed Care Legislation in the Hands of Governor Crist

Senate Bill 1122, which would require managed care companies to honor an insured's assignment of benefits, has passed the legislature and now awaits action by the Governor. The opposition from big insurance was ferocious while the bill was in the legislature, and unfortunately this opposition continues. SCMS encourages Florida physicians to send hand-written letters in support of SB 1122 to the Governor as soon as possible. Please be sure to detail every instance you can where an insurance company ignored an assignment and sent reimbursement directly to the patient, resulting in non-payment to the physician. SCMS will also have sample letters which you may obtain by contacting the SCMS office at 407.804.9535 or scms@scmsociety.com. It will take an all-out effort from all physicians in Seminole County to overcome the managed care companies, with their scores of lobbyists, hired consumer groups, and business allies. Do your part and help one another by sending a letter to Governor Crist today!
