A Thankful Profession Gives Back

Fraser Cobbe

Orange County Medical Society

This week, as families across the region give thanks for the blessings in their lives, the OCMS would like to share our appreciation to our army of volunteers that continue to give back to our community.

Over 20 years ago the Orange County Medical Society partnered with the Orange County Government to create SpecialCare of Central Florida. The goal of the partnership was to make sure that we care for those in our community that need access to specialty care services but fall through the cracks in our health care safety net. Citizens that earn too much to qualify for public assistance but are priced out of the private insurance marketplace.

According to Lisa Meredith, RN, Program Manager of SpecialCare of Central Florida, over the past year our volunteers have provided over $2.3 million dollars of donated services and 2,350 patient visits.

There are thousands of Orange County Residents and their family members that will be a little more thankful this holiday season due to the generosity of our physician community.

For all of those dedicated professionals that have volunteered services this year, the OCMS is extremely thankful.

SpecialCare is always looking for volunteer physician specialists. Physicians can tailor when, where, and how they volunteer their services. All you need is the desire to give back and SpecialCare will work with you to make it professionally and personally rewarding.
